Mystery Deepens in Humaira Asghar’s Death as Police Widen Investigation

The tragic and mysterious death of actress and model Humaira Asghar has left the entertainment industry and public in shock, as Karachi police death investigation efforts continue to expand.

Her decomposed body was discovered on July 8 in a flat in Karachi’s upscale Defence area, sparking widespread speculation and demands for justice.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Mirwaiz Khan, the owner of the flat where Humaira’s body was found, shared critical details. He revealed that the actress had been living in the apartment since December 2018, paying a monthly rent of Rs40,000. However, she did not renew her lease in 2019 and rejected any proposed rent increase.

Mirwaiz stated that their communication was limited and mostly through WhatsApp. Although Humaira last paid rent in May 2024 and sent screenshots as proof, she had reportedly stopped responding after that. Legal action began in 2021, and even after a court ruling in Mirwaiz’s favour in September 2023, she refused to vacate the flat. Despite several attempts to reach her, there was complete silence.

Neighbours had earlier complained about loud quarrels and unpaid maintenance dues, adding to the growing concerns around her behaviour. Eventually, Mirwaiz approached the civil court again, which led to the dispatch of a magistrate. What they found next was beyond disturbing—Humaira’s lifeless, decomposed body inside the very apartment she had refused to leave.

Fashion stylist Danish Maqsood, who last collaborated with Humaira on a photoshoot on October 2, 2024, said all contact was lost after that shoot. He even tried reaching out via social media, but received no replies. Efforts to speak with nearby residents have been unsuccessful, with many unwilling to share information—possibly due to fear or respect for the deceased.

According to officials, the exact cause of death is still unknown, with forensic and postmortem results pending. As part of the ongoing Karachi police death investigation, authorities have identified 10 individuals from Humaira’s phone contacts as persons of interest.

Two have already been questioned, while the former watchman of the building—who had left his job months ago—was also brought in. He was specifically asked about any altercations involving Humaira and whether there were signs of drug use or suspicious activity.

More individuals are expected to be summoned for questioning as early as Monday, as the Karachi police death investigation enters a crucial phase.
