The entertainment world in Pakistan is grappling with a heartbreaking tragedy as new and disturbing details emerge in the Karachi actress death mystery involving Humaira Asghar.
Once a lively presence on screen and social media, the actress was found dead in her flat in DHA Phase 6, Karachi — and chillingly, her body may have been lying there undiscovered for over six months.
The shocking discovery came when a court bailiff broke open the apartment’s door following a legal complaint by the landlord over unpaid rent. Inside, police found Humaira’s body lying face-up on the floor, dressed in a pink T-shirt and jeans. The condition of the corpse was so decomposed that it was nearly unrecognizable — swarmed with insects and with joints beginning to decay, painting a horrifying image of isolation and unnoticed death.
Initially, investigators believed the body had been there for two to four weeks. However, forensic clues told a different story. Expired food in the fridge dated back to October 2024, and Humaira’s last phone communication — a message to a ride-hailing driver — was from September 2024. The electricity had been disconnected around the same time for non-payment of bills, and her final social media activity, a post on September 30, further confirmed her sudden disappearance from public life.
DIG South Syed Asad Raza and SSP South Mahzoor Ali both confirmed that while no signs of forced entry or struggle were found, the extent of decomposition suggests the body had been lying there for more than six months. DNA samples have been sent for confirmation, as physical identification was not possible due to the extreme state of decay.
The Karachi actress death mystery took another emotional turn when police, using mobile phone data, contacted Humaira’s family — only to be told initially that they would not be claiming the body. According to reports, Humaira’s relationship with her family had been strained, and the news of her sudden death sent her father into deep depression, causing him to reject immediate involvement.
However, in a significant development, Humaira’s brother-in-law has now contacted authorities to claim her remains. He explained the family’s hesitation, citing emotional trauma and confusion, but confirmed they are now ready to take responsibility for her final rites. The body will be handed over once legal and forensic procedures are completed.
Meanwhile, the entertainment community and human rights activists have offered to take full responsibility for Humaira’s funeral if the family had remained absent. Several showbiz figures voiced their sorrow, highlighting the emotional toll that loneliness and industry pressures can take on public figures.
Though the exact cause of death remains unknown, police say no signs of foul play or injury have been found. The forensic report will ultimately determine whether this tragedy was the result of natural causes, mental health struggles, or something more sinister.
