Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is being solemnly observed across Pakistan today, as millions remember the ultimate sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions in the historic Battle of Karbala.

The day, marked by deep religious devotion, highlights the timeless message of standing against oppression and upholding truth at any cost.

Throughout the country, mourning processions and religious gatherings are taking place in cities and towns, where people are paying tribute to the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), who stood firm in the face of tyranny. Streets resonate with the echo of mourning rituals as the faithful commemorate the sacrifices made for the protection of Islamic values.

Recognising the significance of this holy day, the government has enforced strict security measures to ensure public safety during Ashura processions in Pakistan. The Ministry of Interior approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and civil armed forces last week, while mobile phone and internet services have been suspended in many areas as a precautionary measure.

In Karachi, the main Ashura procession began at Nishtar Park, moving through its traditional route and concluding at Bargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar by evening, coinciding with the observance of Sham-e-Ghareeban. Security has been intensified with a ban on pillion riding, closure of major roads like MA Jinnah Road, and the sealing of markets such as Saddar, Empress Market, and Regal Market.

Lahore also witnessed large processions, with the main mourning rally starting from Nisar Haveli at Mochi Gate and culminating at Karbala Gaamay Shah. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, the Zuljanah procession commenced from Imam Bargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain, ending at Qadeemi Imam Bargah after maghrib prayers. Over 5,500 police officials have been deployed across Rawalpindi to safeguard the mourners, as directed by Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak.

Marking this day of sacrifice and reflection, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid heartfelt tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. Both leaders urged the nation to embrace the lessons of Karbala and shape Pakistan's future through truthfulness, justice, and unity.

President Zardari emphasized that Ashura processions in Pakistan remind us of Imam Hussain’s (RA) unwavering stance against falsehood, hunger, and oppression. He urged the nation to follow Imam Hussain’s (RA) path, reform itself, and base societal systems on honesty and public welfare.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the eternal message of the Karbala battle, calling it a beacon of courage, sacrifice, and principled living. He stressed the importance of adopting honesty, tolerance, and sacrifice in both personal conduct and state policies to build a welfare and self-reliant Pakistan.
