Pakistan’s First Horror Film Earns PKR 120.7 million in 16 Days

Dheemak continues its money streak at the Pakistani box office, collecting a strong PKR 20.11 million in its third weekend. The 16-day total now stands at an impressive PKR 120.7 million.

The film, which grossed PKR 50.58 million in its first week and added another PKR 2.075 million in its second, has proven to be a financial success especially for a genre that’s never been taken seriously in local cinema.

As the first horror film to come out of Pakistan, Dheemak has sparked both praise and criticism. Some viewers called it a bold step and applauded its acting, storyline, and non-traditional ending. Others dismissed it as a “choppy attempt” at horror, pointing to unpolished VFX and camera work.

Still, considering Pakistan’s limited resources and inexperience with VFX-heavy productions, the film’s scale and success are nothing short of groundbreaking. Audiences are quick to compare with Hollywood, forgetting the vast gap in budget, technology, and decades of technical experience.

One fan wrote on his socials, “We’re used to watching polished foreign films with massive production budgets. For a debut attempt, Dheemak did great. Let’s support our own film industry instead of tearing it down.”

The film’s strong earnings signal growing interest in new genres and show that Pakistani cinema, while still rough around the edges, is evolving. The horror door has been opened. What matters now is who walks through it next and whether the industry is ready to level up.
