In a historic and unprecedented move, the Government of Pakistan has officially promoted Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, the highest possible military rank in the country.

The decision was made during a high-level federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, following Pakistan’s resounding success in Operation Bunyān Marsūs.

The operation, launched in response to India’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression on the night of May 6-7, 2025, marked a critical moment in Pakistan\\\\\\'s modern military history. The Indian attack, which targeted civilian populations including women and children, was met with a decisive and strategic counter-response under General Asim Munir’s leadership.

Describing the military campaign as the \\\\\\"Battle of Truth,\\\\\\" Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the entire Pakistani nation on this landmark victory, praising the heroic coordination and fearless leadership demonstrated by General Asim Munir and the armed forces.

\\\\\\"His courageous command not only safeguarded our sovereignty but turned back the enemy\\\\\\'s ambitions with remarkable resolve,\\\\\\" said the Prime Minister.

The federal cabinet recognized General Munir’s unmatched military strategy, steadfast courage, and bold leadership, crediting him as the driving force behind the operation’s overwhelming success. His promotion to Field Marshal was unanimously approved, with PM Sharif personally briefing President Asif Ali Zardari about the monumental decision.

In another key decision, the government extended the services of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, whose tenure was about to end, acknowledging his continued value to national defense.

Furthermore, the cabinet announced that all personnel—officers, soldiers, martyrs, and civilian contributors—who played significant roles during Operation Bunyān Marsūs will be honored with high-level state awards for their distinguished service.

Field Marshal Asim Munir dedicates honor to nation

Reacting to the historic honor, Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed deep gratitude, saying he thanks Allah Almighty for this significant achievement.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Asim Munir humbly dedicated the honor to the entire nation, the Pakistan Armed Forces, and the martyrs and veterans who have made unmatched sacrifices for the country.

“This is not just my achievement,” he remarked. “It belongs to every soldier, every civilian martyr, and every brave individual who stood for Pakistan. I am thankful to the President, the Prime Minister, and the cabinet for their trust. This honor is a national trust — and millions of Asims are ready to sacrifice to uphold it.”

In his heartfelt message, Field Marshal Asim Munir also acknowledged the unwavering support of the people of Pakistan, emphasizing that this title is not a personal milestone but a collective honor for the armed forces and the entire nation.
