UK tax authorities clear Hassan Nawaz of bankruptcy

UK government published details of his bankruptcy in the official gazette

In a significant development, the UK tax authorities have officially ended the bankruptcy status of Hassan Nawaz, the son of Pakistan's former Prime Minister and PML-N President, Nawaz Sharif.

As of April 29, 2025, Hassan Nawaz is legally permitted to resume normal business activities and can now serve as a company director once again.

The decision came after the completion of the bankruptcy term, with no evidence of illegal activity found during the process. Two months ago, the UK’s HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) confirmed that Hassan Nawaz had voluntarily declared bankruptcy, reportedly due to an outstanding tax amount close to £10 million.

According to Hassan Nawaz, despite making due tax payments, HMRC continued to demand taxes well past a reasonable period—prompting him to file for bankruptcy protection.

Last year, the UK government published details of his bankruptcy in the official gazette, which led to intense media scrutiny and speculation. However, British authorities have now confirmed that there were no criminal or civil charges, no signs of non-cooperation, and no violations of court orders during the case.

HMRC acknowledged that Hassan Nawaz fully complied with all legal procedures and obligations, demonstrating zero evidence of corruption or mismanagement. With the bankruptcy case officially closed, the UK government has granted him permission to restart his business ventures without restrictions.

Notably, once a bankruptcy term ends in the UK, the individual is no longer legally required to repay previous debts, and creditors are prohibited from pursuing recovery.

Some media outlets had painted a negative picture of Hassan Nawaz’s financial matters, but investigations revealed that all processes remained clean and transparent.
