Pakistan has welcomed a statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who praised both India and Pakistan for showing restraint and reaching a ceasefire agreement amid escalating tensions.
The Pakistani Foreign Office lauded Trump’s offer to mediate on the long-standing Kashmir issue, reiterating Islamabad’s desire for a peaceful resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
Spokesperson for the Foreign Office said Pakistan appreciates the constructive role played by the United States and other friendly nations in helping de-escalate the recent tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The spokesperson confirmed that the U.S. contributed to facilitating the latest ceasefire agreement between Islamabad and New Delhi.
"We welcome President Trump’s offer to assist in resolving the Kashmir dispute,” the spokesperson said. “Pakistan has always supported the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.”
The statement also emphasized that Pakistan aims to strengthen its trade, investment, and economic relations with the United States, and remains engaged with the international community to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
In a separate statement, Donald Trump expressed pride in having helped both nations reach a critical turning point. “I’m proud that India and Pakistan had the courage to realize it was time to halt the aggression. Millions of innocent lives could have been lost,” Trump said. “This ceasefire sets a strong precedent. America is honored to have supported both sides in reaching this historic decision.”
He further added that while discussions on Kashmir haven’t yet taken place formally, he intends to explore solutions for the issue with both countries and plans to expand trade relations with India and Pakistan.
Trump concluded by expressing his best wishes for the leadership of both nations, commending them for choosing diplomacy over destruction. “May your leadership remain strong. Congratulations to both India and Pakistan for making the right decision.”
This development comes at a time when the region remains on high alert, and international calls for restraint have intensified. Pakistan continues to emphasize that meaningful dialogue and adherence to international law are key to resolving the Kashmir conflict and achieving lasting peace in South Asia.
